Insights into the Detrimental Impacts and Coping Mechanisms under Salinity Stress in Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.)

چکیده

Global food production is seriously threatened by salinity stress, which becoming more severe due to human activity. For the majority of people worldwide, mungbean a significant pulse crop and rich source protein calories hence rightly marked as “Poor man’s meat” “rich vegetables”. Salt on other hand, negatively affects productivity since it causes decreased germination, reduced growth development, interrupted photosynthesis, hormonal imbalance eventually yields. Consequently, developing mitigation strategies deal with salt stress requires greater understanding how plants respond stress. The present review highlights detrimental effects physiological biochemical tolerance mechanisms in mungbean.

Salinity and High Temperature Tolerance in Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] from a Physiological Perspective

Biotic and abiotic constraints seriously affect the productivity of agriculture worldwide. The broadly recognized benefits of legumes in cropping systems-biological nitrogen fixation, improving soil fertility and broadening cereal-based agro-ecologies, are desirable now more than ever. Legume production is affected by hostile environments, especially soil salinity and high temperatures (HTs). A...

Performance of Summer Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) under Different Sowing Time at Farmers’ Field

The predominance of rice-wheat cropping system in Punjab has resulted in number of ecological problems in the state such as depletion of underground water table, deterioration of soil health by adversely affecting the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil (Kumar et al., 2016). However, for over a decade, ricewheat cropping system yields in high productivity zones have either ...

Seed Yield of Mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) in relation to Growth and Developmental Aspects

Growth parameters such as leaf area (LA), total dry mass (TDM) production, crop growth rate (CGR), relative growth rate (RGR), and net assimilation rate (NAR) were compared in six varieties of mungbean under subtropical condition (24°8' N 90°0' E) to identify limiting growth characters for the efficient application of physiology breeding for higher yields. Results revealed that a relatively sma...

Stochastic alternative splicing is prevalent in mungbean (Vigna radiata)

Alternative splicing (AS) can produce multiple mature mRNAs from the same primary transcript, thereby generating diverse proteins and phenotypes from the same gene. To assess the prevalence of AS in mungbean (Vigna radiata), we analysed whole-genome RNA sequencing data from root, leaf, flower and pod tissues and found that at least 37.9% of mungbean genes are subjected to AS. The number of AS t...

Effect of weeding on the growth, yield and yield contributing characters of mungbean (Vigna radiata L.)

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to assess the effect of weeding on growth, yield and yield contributing characters of mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) cv. BINA mung4 during October 2011 to February 2012. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four replications. The trial comprised seven tre...
